Unit 1: Routines, Review and Assessments
During this unit, we will:
Use every day life situations to help your child practice these skills at home.
For example:
- make change up to a dollar and show the amount using the fewest coins possible
- show more than one combination of coins to make a given amount of money
- tell elapsed time
- identify the rule for a frame and arrow sequence and fill in the missing numbers
Use every day life situations to help your child practice these skills at home.
For example:
- Write elapsed time problems such as, "Dinner went into the oven at 5:45 and needs to come out in 40 minutes. What time will we need to take it out at?" or "John returned from walking his dog at 2:10. He was gone for 1 hour and 20 minutes, what time did he start walking his dog at?"
- Have your child determine how much money they will receive after making their purchase. For example, if your child wants to buy a candy bar for 79¢ and they pay with a $1 bill, how much change will they get back? How can they show that using the fewest amount of coins possible? **As a challenge, have your child practice making change up to $10.
- Encourage your child to show two different ways to pay for an item using exact change. For example, if an apple costs 54¢ one combination could be Q Q P P P P and another combination could be D D D D D P P P P.
